need to refurbish tank?

I have read several posts about refurbishing the inside of fuel tanks- mine is out and could be done if necessary. The tank is in very good condition- and has only a slight rust along parts of the inside. There is no significant pitting or flaking. I am replacing the fuel screen (when it gets off backorder from PP) and fuel pump/filter were replaced along with the fuel lines. This 914 is getting ready for a Raby built 2270 over the holidays.

Do you guys think this is serious enough to go to the trouble of coating the tank? Is it enough to possibly give me problems within the next few years

Easy to do with the POR-15 kit. Takes a couple of evenings (have to wait for things to dry).

I took mine to the local radiator shop (the good one) and they striped the inside and out and then recoated it for a couple c-notes. Cheap enough not to pass up.

POR kit worked well for me and the inside of my tank was a lot worse than that. The car had been sitting for over 15 years with a 1/4 tank of gas (or should I say jello) in it! Just use the warmest water you can with the cleaning agent.

POR has a sealer in the kit. A rubberized, rust sealing paint that you swish around the inside to create a new impervious lining inside the tank!

finished

I finished the project using the POR-15 kit. It is pretty easy to do- but the process does take a while due to all of the steps (cleaning and rinsing) that you have to go through. Thought I would post an "after" pic for closure.
