rear bushings
I am trying to replace the bushings in my trailing arms.My current bushings have no movement at all. When you raise the trailing arm you can see the mounting nut rotate. When I installed new bushings in the arm with the center shaft it was a press fit allowing no movement. Where should the movement be and any ideas how to correct my problem?

I have the same question!
I have heard two schools of thought on this: 1: The bushings should be sanded evenly all around until they just fit into the trailing arm. So that the trailing arm would pivot around the outer diameter of the bushing. 2: The bushings should be press fit into the arm. So the bushing will move with the arm and the inner diameter of the bushing will pivot on the long bolt that holds the arm on. Which way is the RIGHT way? To me number two seems more right, but I am not sure. -Brent |

Number 2 is correct. If you look on the ends of the shaft it is knurled to bite into the chassis when the nut is tightened. The shaft should not turn but rather the bushing should slide on the stationary shaft.
