Oil pressure gauge
I have a 1971 914-6 with a 1971 911E 2.2 motor. The oil pressure gauge is always maxed out no matter what I do. I have tried removing the wire from the gauge, the sender, and even tried another gauge, same thing. Since I have bought the car, the gauge has been like that. I have confirmed that the wire attached to the sender is the same as the wire attached to the gauge. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The wire is broken. BTDT, went through the whole panic thing.
Stick an ohmmeter from the gauge end of the wire to ground. There should be *some* connection at all times, power on or power off. Next do the ohmmeter from the gauge end of the wire to the sender end of the wire. Unless the resistance is just about 0, you have a wiring problem. Either trace the wire to find the break (could be inside the insulation and not obvious from the outside), or just replace the wire. Most popular places for wires to break are at any connectors, or anywhere that they get squished hard. --DD |
