Import Motor ?????
Ok.......I know this company has been mentioned on here before,
has anyone had first hand experience with these guys? I find it hard to resist a 2.16 liter motor with counterweighted crank, rebuilt for 2,000. I have heard both positive and negative things about ImportMotor from a few people. the site is www.importmotor.com Thanks, Mike |
Bus motor

I exchanged email with the guy a few times and when I asked him for an estimate on building an engine to my specs, I never heard back from him.
|
Hmmmmmmmmmmm................Really?
|
What exactly is the difference between the 914 engine and the bus engine?
|
I also tried to arrange for him to do a combination for me. At first he, Dwayne, would return my emails and then stopped. I called him to discuss things but he just would not return my email or calls. The guy seems like a stright shooter, disabled vet he says, but I wonder if he is not overwhelmed.
The prices are very low. In order to turn a profit, labor and parts must be a great deal ( Jobber rates). He says he as been building engines for 14 years. Unfortunately, I know of no one who has DIRECT knowledge of his work. Sorry, L. McChesney PS. Mikey, isn't he just up the coast from you in the LA area? It's cold/snow winter here, but I bet it would be a nice drive in So. Cal. |
Yeah....That's another PLUS!!! No shipping cost. It's only an hour and a half away!!

Difference between Bus motor and 914 motor?
1. Heads on 2 L otherwise no difference. 2. Location of dipstick Ya gotta watch out thoe, dem bus motors are used to going backwards:D |
there are a few things different BUS-914... but nothing huge... heads were the big difference.
read this to find out all there is to know about the different type 4s... http://tunacan.net/t4/index.shtml |
Other different parts: pistons (lower compression) and cam (tamer than even the very tame stock 914 cam). Hydro lifters in the later Buses, with the associated parts (cam, pushrods, rocker arm spacers, etc.).

I have been running a CA bus case for about 5 years 1.8L w/ carbs and mild cam. I used the cheapest cofap pistons ect....... Learned how to drive on the track and then my wife....... IT has been overreved many times. When I built my 2.0L I pulled the 1.8 and rebuilt the heads. I found a few half moon marks on the pistons from the valves. So I PUT ER BACK IN ANOTHER CAR AND RAISED THE COMPRESSION. I THINK IT WILL GIVE THE 2.0l a run, If she is driving.
