What is this part?

I've been trying to ID this part for 3 years and I think I have. In the PET it is described as "Base", part number 914 505 107 10. Attached is the photo I took of my part it's on the bracket near the bottom of the photo. Is this the part that matches the p/n? This is the support/mounting bracket for the front bumper - correct?

I have a couple extra bumpers that may have these. One set I need to keep but if I have another, you're welcome to it.

Thanks, Gerard, I may take you up on that. Just to clarify: The part I'm looking for is the rubber piece that you see going horizontal (sorta) near the bottom of the picture. It's the part that has a seam going down the middle (also horizontally). It's about an inch thick and 4 or 5 inches long. It attaches to the metal bracket by way of two pull-through plugs that are molded onto the back side opposite what you see here. I have no idea how you'd get them off without cutting the plugs or how you'd attach them if the plugs weren't there. The metal bracket they're attached to is welded onto the bumper and there is little working room behind them to work on the plugs.

If this is what you're offering, I'm in. PM me and we'll work out the arrangements and thanks VERY MUCH for your kind offer.

The factory parts book calls that a "base" indeed; it is part number 914.505.107.10 . Held on by two nuts; the threaded parts are bonded into the rubber. You will need a very small socket or a very small ratchet to get to the mounting nuts.

Thanks, Dave. I felt behind the mounting bracket and it felt like two rubber bullets molded onto the "base" that had long tips to the noses of the bullets. When you get the tips through the hole and pull on them it stretches the bullet out so that it'll pass through the hole. I didn't feel any nuts on the one on my car. Maybe I'll have to check again.

Hmmm.... I may have misinterpreted the pictures, then!

It could be that they are held on by rubber barbs. The relay sockets on top of the relay board are. I think to get the part off of the bumper, you would need to reach in with a stiff piece of metal (maybe an Allen key??) and push in the side of the barb.

Yes, that's exactly how they're held on and you have the right idea about how to remove the parts.

So thats what the metal bumper brackets look like. :cool:

On my early 74 car (VIN...1465) the brackets are not installed. I have seen the separate metal brackets only once on ebay and didnt know how they fit. I havent removed the froin bumber from my later 74 car (VIN 14536), but I wonder if they are there? They seem to be a later 74 car item only

It's easy to remove the bumper and it's amazing what you can find under there. I also took the rocker panels off and shoveled a gallon of gravel off the bottom rail of each of them last w/e.

I don't think the metal brackets are bolted to the bumper, the bolt/nut you see are used to secure the outer bumper pad (the big ones on the front of the car) and I think the bracket is welded to the bumper. The air dam is mounted separately and I haven't removed that yet to see what's under it.
