New seats

Not being able to afford some high bolster Renegade seats. I tried to make some myself.

Made the bolsters and then did the upholstery for a total of about $70. Need to start on the passenger side soon before I forget how.

You upholstered your seats yourself? Is this something that is easy to do? Did you have a kit? Please explain! I'd love to redo my seats just like you did, but I'm not sure where to begin. The local upholstery shop wants about $1000 to do it, so I would much rather do it myself. You did a fantastic job!

Did it myself no kit but did have some help. A freind has a industrial sewing machine and had done some upholstery work before. He showed me how to do it to and let me use his machine.
But after doing this I found a shop in town that will do the seats for $125 and furnish the materials on my modified bases. I may let them do the next one.

Looks good, Bob! Lot's of satisfaction from doing it yourself, too, I'd bet!

I gotta do that myself one of these days.

Bob,

Those seats look fantastic. Very cool!! How and what did you use to attach the side bolsters. What are the side bolsters made of? If I could figure that out, my local upholstry place would recover each seat for $100. Not in vynil of course.

Thanks,

Michel

Oh, sorry, I spoke too soon and did not let the other photos load. Is that 3/4 inch plywood?

Its 3/4" plywood like you guessed. I bolted them on and then filled the gaps with body filler (BONDO) this sticks great to the fiberglass and plywood. I then put a couple of layers of fiberglass over it. On the next one I don't think I'll do the fiberglass they seem strong enough with the bolts and bondo. I'd also make the back bolsters a little larger.
