temp gauge

OK, this may sound like a stupid question to a 914 veteran but I'm new to the world of 914s so I've got to ask. My question is: when the engine is running at normal opporating temp, what letter of T E M P should the needle lye? I've got a '74 2.0 with the gauge in the center consule as opposed to the dash. thanks for the help

Jeremy

You might want to check the archives on this but...the stock un-numbered gauge is a waste of time....it is inaccurate and it annoys you...if you really want to track your oil temp...due to spirited driving, racing, or high temp desert driving...

What I did, was buy a new VDO gauge with numbers and the matching sender unit. This gave me an accurate assesment of the oil temp with no guess work....they realtively cheap, 40 bucks and will be right, not like the 30 year one you have now...
