914-6 conversion
I'm doing a 914 conversion to 2.2 six/Zenith carbs. Here are my ?s/concerns. I would like some help from those of you out there that have done their conversions.
*Going to use original tail shift trans. Can I hookup the trans to the 2.2 with the clutch/press plate flywheel that came with the engine, Or do I stick with the clutch/flywheel from the stock 4 engine? Also stock starter or 911 starter? I have both. I need help with and maybe a diagram showing hookup of hoses for the oil tank. Also pictures or diagram for the location and mounting of the front engine brackets. Thanks, Mack |
Use the clutch and pressure plate and flywheel that came with the engine.
The front engine bracket locations somewhat depend on which moutn you are using. Most of the firewall-mounted ones go below the engine shelf, centered laterally. Not sure offhand about the oil tank plumbing. --DD |

Mack, the flywheel that you want will fit the TIV pressure plate and disk, however you will want to use the six spring clutch disk for the six IMHO.
The lower picture is of an installed weld in type of mount. HTH |
If you are in the San Diego area you can come by and check mine out. I did the conversion last fall after getting tired of blowing up four cylinder engines every other race. There are many possibilities for each part of the conversion, each is weighing stock parts against aftermarket. For mine we went with motor mounts and engine tin from Jim Patrick in Phoenix. I already had a dry sump system but used larger lines to the front oil cooler. I use a racing tranny with limited slip (GT) and a home made rear shift rod with an aircraft type sealed coupling. I also use a shifter from Jim West in Texas (GREAT!) and have had no troubles with the shifting. Good luck

The tailshift 4 will not work with a 6. I think it will interfere with the heat exchangers.
I would convert to side shift. |
Tailshift should work with headers.
