Its going in
Got a question for anyone who has done a V8 conversion. I got the back end of the car up about 38" just by taking the front off the jacks, the engine clears with no problem, I slid it underneath and lined it up. Do I remove the rear wheels and lift each side one at a time and bolt it in or do I remove the carb and install the lift plate and lift it with the cherry picker? Any ideas?

Hey,
I lowered the car onto the motor mount bar, then jacked the trans up to the mounts. Watch out for the cables and such, they're a pain. Also, make sure you have removed your trunk torsion springs and clearanced the trunk for the distributor. I followed the technique in the Pelican tech articles. Mark 72 914 5.0L |

Quit typing and get to wrenching, your'e only 30 mins away from having it mounted.
I use a cherry picker now but have used jacks at both sides of the engine mount bar and end of trans. I have also used all thread and jacked the engine up with it. The hoist is the fastest and by far the easiest. |

I've had success using one floor jack with a 3'-4' long piece of 2" square steel tubing, and jacking at the center of the car under the firewall. I have an engine dolly similar to yours, and I lower the car gradually right onto the motor mount bar and transmission mounts. Piece of cake. Slip the bolts in and tighten, then raise it back up to complete the installation using jack stands only for safety. I keep the wheels on. Watch and guide the axles and jiggle the engine around on the dolly as the car comes down. It should be totally free to move until it comes all the way down and touches the mounts. Good luck!
