vacuum hoses...
i have a 1974 1.8 L-jet and i noticed that in a lot of the pictures i see that one of the hoses from the charcoal canister plugs into the fan housing just below and behind the coil.
enter problem: on mine, it appears that at one point the barb to plug the hose onto broke off. it appears that the resulting hole was plugged and the hose is now plugged onto a barb on the front of the housing. this seems like it would be a bad thing. also, does anybody know what the resistance should be between the terminals on the coil? i printed off the ignition troubleshooting tech article and saw that the numbers listed for resistance were 0.3-0.6 ohms and around 600ohms (i cant remember which is for which, but i know i measured it right) and mine was around 6 ohms and 6.7k ohms, respectively. I assume that since the other guide was for carbed engines it would be different? i went and got a new coil anyways (the one thats in there is probably the original) and the numbers are almost exactly the same.

Some 914s had the "pressure" connection to the cannister hooked up to a fitting on the engine tin. Some had it connected to a fitting on the fan shroud. A few cars had both fittings, but only one or the other was connected. Sounds like you may have one of those. Don't worry about it...
Not sure on the coil resistance offhand. --DD
