Brembo brake upgrade

Hello all, i'm installing Boxster S calipers on my 914, and i'm curious if anyone has ran across a Brembo mechanical caliper for an E brake. I think i've seen it on cars like the Carrera GT and other big dollar cars.... its usually mounted opposite of the rear caliper.

Have you looked into a Wilwood spot caliper? I'm not sure what rotor thickness it will work with, but you might want to check it out.

You can use 911 e-brake parts. I have done it and it works. You just need custom cables.

You mean somethign like this?




I did this years ago, and when I tried to get some interest in the kits, I got 0 response. I still have the CNC codes for it if I can ever get some interest. It's a complete bolt on.

Here are the prices at one place. Price varies depending on disc (rotor) thickness and whether you want a polished finish.

$50 per for the cheapest model.

Thanks Andrew, looks like i'm gonig to have to keep looking or make my own. The thickest they go is 20mm, my rear rotor is giong to be 24mm thick.

Clay, post that photo on 914club.com, and I'll bet you get some interest. This subject has been discussed over there, and that board is very friendly to people making small items for sale like that.

renegade now sells a bolt-on separate e-brake for those that have upgraded to 5-bolt vented rotors. I got info on it from them about a month ago.

I was looking for 50 sets to sell. I can't pay the machinist without that many. I was not going to supply the caliper, just the mounts.

I had quoted 150.00 for it with all the brackets and bolts, but no calipers.

The spot caliper is a Wilwood, and you can get extra spacers so you can use a 24mm rotor.

Clay, i have access to a full machine shop, and will be starting my own as soon as i can get a CNC lathe. From the looks of your picture, i would make it out of 1 peice, which would drop the price considerably, less machine time. Let me know if your interested.

You can't make it out of one piece, it sets the mount point for the spot caliper too far back.

I designed the part, and it won't fit without the spacer. The caliper won't align with the rotor.

Ok, i fallow you now. It could be done, but that woud me some mighty thick material to start with, but and with all the pocketing, it would look really cool. I'd like to find a way to mount it on the back side of the rotor with the tab for the back brake sheet metal cover.

I like the simplicity of your setup Clay. Can you buy just the pads for the spot caliper? I think it might be easier for me to make a caliper than to make an adapter for the one you have.

Wilwood sells pads for the spot caliper, but buying the whole caliper is failry cheap, and I didn't have to engineer it. I looked at the idea of mounting it on the back, but it was easier to mount it at the bottom, and use the caliper mount bolts to hold it. Plus it shortens up the rod that I use to connect it to the park brake cable.

My big deterent is the adapter for the Boxster calipers which keep me from utilizing those two bolting spots you used for yours. I'm 99% sure i want it on the oposite side of the brake. Thanks for your help, if you have interest in machining those out, i'll give you a qoute, just give me general dimensions and thickness. THanks again, Don.

Rich Johnson and I discussed that very problem. You can machine a 1/2 inch slot on the side betwen the block and the caliper mount. Then insert the bracket. Or make the block with the tab for the bracket on it.
