Brake Master Cylinder Rebuild Kits for 914

Hi, I'm new to this forum and am visiting because I have a question about rebuild kits for the 914 brake master cylinder.

The 914 master cylinder appears to have some sort of proportioning valve in it that will close off one circuit if there is a leak. At the time that it closes off the leaking circuit, a switch is tripped that turns on a lite on the dash. See pic.

My 1969 Alfa has a valve on it that performs the same function. But, this valve is not integrated with the master cylinder. It is separate and hangs on the fire wall. See pic.

Finally, here's my question. Can you get rebuild kits that contain the seals for this valve? If so, who would you recommend for me to get one from. Thanks very much.

Brian

i think you can get rebuild kits but many people have the opinion that the replacement is cheap enough to just buy a new one.

the 914 MC is a dual circuit, that is, if one brake fails, the whole system doesn't fail. i think the 2 systems are connected in a diagonal arrangement, like: front left is on the same system as rear right. so if that system were to fail, the front right/left rear would still operate and you might be able to "limp home".

if you rebuild/work on the MC, you may have to "reset" the light by pushing on some button on the MC, there have been posts on this BBS about that....

I don't know about the Alfa.
Thanks for this info. I'm pretty surprised that the kits don't include these seals. Ate calls this a differential pressure warning device. The instructions that come with the master cylinder rebuild kits includes instructions on the DPW. So, it just doesn't make sense that the kits don't contain the seals. it's pretty darn frustrating.
