throttle switch cleaning??

Is there any way to open up the throttle switch and spray it out with contact cleaner to restore its proper operation. Or does the coating on the contacts inside just wear out??

Yes, and yes.

You can open the switch up--the black plastic cover comes off. Tabs in the backing plate fit into slots in the edges of the cover. Be careful not to break the parts of the cover that have the slots. You can then clean up the inside.

But the typical failure mode is for the tracings to wear through. This requires replacement of the switch to fix.

It is probably worth opening it up and cleaning it, just to see if that helps. But realize there is a pretty good chance that it won't.
