Need a ballast resistor??
 

Does anyone know for sure the effects of not installing a ballast resistor while running a "high performance"/"high output coil"?? Specifically Jacob's high output coil. I'm running Jacob's ignition wires with ignitor electronic ignition. I replaced the Bosch coil with the Jacob's coil last weekend and have been driving with it since. SO FAR...... no problems, 3 hour nonstop highway trip and plenty of around town driving, but I've been told that this coil might short the rotor or something else in the ignition system.....
Anyone had any experience with this? I haven't noticed a big difference in performance with the Jacob's coil but the Bosch one was bad and I had it handy. Any reason I should go back to a new Bosch coil?

I put MSD coil w/o resistor points fried end of street. Directions said use .8ohm I could only find 1.3ohm ran like crap. Running OEM Bosch blue internal resistor. I would say carry a point file but it sounds like your having better luck than I did with hi output coil.

Ask Jacobs, I'll bet they will tell you that no ballast resistor needed.

With OEM coil no ballast needed as it is internal in the coil. That MSD coil I tried said .8ohm ballast resistor needed with points but not for the MSD eletronic ign box its made for.

I did this once with an MSD, and the car would die over 3000 RPM....
