Bad Decel Valve Can Cause Engine to Die?
I'm looking at purchasing a '74 2.0 project car, but the owner says it has a problem. It dies in the middle of intersections. Almost got him killed so he stopped driving the 914. He said his mechanic thinks it's a bad Decel Valve. Would a bad Decel Valve cause the engine to die while accelerating? What's the purpose of this valve. Is it a costly component?

It's easy enough to tell. Just disconnect and plug the vacuum lines to it. My guess is that the stalling behavior will continue, probably caused by something else (e.g. rich/lean idle mixture, bad MPS, bad trigger points, bad CHT sensor, etc.).

Ok. Where exactly is the Decel Valve? What does it look like?
