1.8 liter - looking for a project
Hey all-
I have a very tired 1.8 that I took out of my 914 when I swapped a 2.0 in. The motor is mounted in a stand with a battery and gas tank and does run. The oil pressure is pretty good. The compression was low and it burns and leaks a ton of oil. I'm looking for a project: Should I leave it as is and just add nitrous and put it on a go-cart? How about an air boat? Build a Trike? Rebuild it to a 2270 and swap it back into my 914 and sell the stock 2.0 out of it? Build a personal helicopter and be the first to helo to work in Lower Alabama? Call the junk man? Attached is a picture of the 2.0 on the stand that the 1.8 is now on. All suggestions are welcome!!!!!

Get another tired 1.8 and build a custom 3.6L flat-8? I like the stand though. Looks good.

You probably won't be the first person in Alabama to win the Darwin award, and certainly not the last...

Now, now....
Without us Darwinian Nominees how would the rest of you know what not to do? Actually, my neighbor has a '79 Ford Courier pick up truck rusting away in the back 40. I was thinking of putting it in that....... |

I've always wanted to see an air-cooled engine in the front of a traditionally water-cooled vehicle...
Please post pics, both of the project, and the people laughing... I'm serious, I do want to see that, but I'm from the South, so I feel obliged to give you a hard time...

It's no problem, Jason.
I'm actually from Boston. I've been down here ~10 years so when I go home they say "You aren't from around here, are you?" and down here they still say "You ain't from aroun' here, are ya, Boy?" Ahh well Really, though, that motor has been sitting in my shop for over a year. I keep the battery charged and run it every now and then to piss off the neighbors. How about a generator for the next hurricane that comes through? Put it in a Golf cart and go terrorize the folks over at the Country Club? |

donuts on a putting green are bad enough to be class A felonies. Me and my friends tore up our local coutry club on 4-wheelers when I was 11 or 12, and it was insane. We got away clean, but it probably did $150,00 in damage...
Just make sure to make a video...

Been There done that.
It was the DastaVolka 1966 Datsun Pickup with a bay bus rear suspension and a type3 engine. The truck had a 4 inch body lift and a fully functioning Bed. The engine compartmant was turned into a trunk. I used a Datsun because the torsion bar front Susp allowed me to adjust the ride height without buy new springs. The Whole set up was made as a bolt in using the leaf spring pivots as mounting points for the subframe that held the engine and rear suspension I have been thinking of doing another one this time a King Cab. |

Negative on the re-ringing. Did that once and it only stopped smoking for a couple thous. miles. Besides, the 2.0 currently in the 914 is a very happy motor.
I guess I'm not going to get any really revolutionary suggestions so I guess what I'll do is build a combination emergency generator/rototiller/garden tractor for the farm. I have an old Cammaro up on blocks and one of those giant satelite dishes I can use for parts.

You should build a lawn tractor that will do like 170MPH. That would be b!tchin'! I'm serious. Surely there are some rednecks around there who would be more than happy to assist in somethig as ludicrous as a German version Fast and Furious lawn tractor.
