Okay heres the situation i've got a '71 1.7l and i am having a problem with the accelerator pedal, the rod that connects the pedal to the little ball on the assembaly keeps rubbing on the tunnel and pops off, is there some way to adjust it so it stays on, I am only 15 and this the first porsche me or my dad have worked on

What has happened is the ball has worn coupling so that it is not a snug fit anymore. You should be able to call Pelican and get a replacement part for... $10 (thats a guess)

Also, check to make sure the accelerator lever that is part of the petal assembly is not bent. The accelerator rod shouldn't rub against the tunnel so the ball comes off. Also, look to make sure the accel cable is not wrapped around the clutch cable. Use a mirror and a light to look back down the tunnel to see this, after taking apart the petal floor board pieces. Ask me how I found out about this one!

Almost sounds like the pedal is rusted/worn out. The pedal should move back and forth smoothly, with a little bit of spring action, but should not move side to side at all.
