Stripe removal

My 73 has the black Porsche stripe decal along the customary bottom on each side. I plan on painting the car in the hopefully near future and have been looking at that decal. How do I remove it? My idea so far is to use a paint scraper similar to a sharpened putty knife and try to peel it away. Does anyone have a better way?

Try a blow dryer with variable heat settings. It should soften the adhesive and allow you to slowly remove the decal.

Bill~
Im a porter/detailer at a Porsche dealership and ive done alot of strip removal on other cars, your best bet is to get some paint-safe glue and adhesive remover like 3M and a plastic razor blade, periodically rinse over the lettering during the span of an hour or so the as your removing work slowly with the razor(plastic) and keep using the solution as you go, it should be a pretty easy procedure and i use the same type of solution on boxters, carreras, the new turbo, and even my 914 so your car will be fine--good luck

A good sharp blade in a sawz-all will get them off :-)

Another idea to remove decals from just about any surface is WD40. the stuff works great and isn't too expencive. I have used it to remove racing numbers from my new Golf and was very successful in removing the pillar vinyl.
