2.0L with 911 trans

Does anyone know if a 2.0l out of a 914 bolts upto a 1973 porsche 911 tranny

yes and no.

In 1972 the 911 stopped using the 901 tranny (stock on all 914's with a different rear cover) and went with the 915 unit.

The bolt pattern is the same, however you'd need to do some work to get it to work correctly in a 914. Namely flipping the ring and pinion. Otherwise, you'd have 5 reverse gears and 1 forward gear. You'd also need to figure out how to rig up a shift linkage as the transmission is the other way around in a 911.

I'm not exactly sure, but I also dont believe the stock 914 flywheel, clutch and starter will work either.

If it's for a 914 you're really better off finding a stock 914 tranny. Plenty of them out there. The amount of time and money to adapt a 915 isnt worth it.

I think he's putting a 914 2.0 into a 911, basically making a 912E of sorts.

Made those upto 75-76 right? What trans did they use? anyone

The 912E uesd a 923 gearbox.

The 912E/923 gearbox is a modified 915 Trans. The mainshaft is unique as well as the gearing. Kinda rare, I have seen them on the web selling for as high as $1600 used...

The 923 gearbox is a very rare bit--only 2099 912Es were made, and those were the only cars to use that gearbox. The 923 is a 915 transmission (as used in 1972-1986 911s) with a 901-style input shaft. That way the engine could use the 914's clutch and flywheel setup.

I think that Kennedy ( http://www.kennedyeng.com ) makes a flywheel/clutch setup that will let you mate a Type IV motor to a 915 gearbox. I am not certain of that, though.

Mounting the motor and getting the engine tin fitted correctly will take a little work. Both are very doable, if you can fabricate a bit and weld, but both will require work.
