Clutch won't engage
I put a new clutch in my '74 2.0 per the Pelican Parts article. Now I cannot get the clutch to engage at all. I've tried adjusting the cable via the nut at the end of the cable at the tranny- moved the thing all over the board- and it just won't engage. No slack in it, pedal movement is good. With the rear jacked up and the car in gear I can spin the rear wheels with my pinky finger. No doubt I have some adjustment wrong, am I looking at pulling the tranny and maybe shimming out T/O fork? ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and happy Easter.

Thanks 914GT. I did like you said and removed the cable and the clutch still was not engaged. I removed the tranny this morning, what should I be looking for?- everything looks fine.

There was play at the fork and there was no interference. I torqued the bolts to spec, perhaps something is on incorrectly. I'll remove everything and check it out. Thanks for your help so far.

How does the fork fit onto the ball stud? Is the bushing in the fork OK? Did you have the flywheel surfaced when you replaced the clutch?

I replaced the bushing for the fork ball and I had the flywheel resurfaced.

Last time I had this problem, it was on a friend's Honda. We had swapped in a new clutch and flywheel and it turned out that they had provided us with the wrong pressure plate. The part bolted up correctly and everything looked fine visually however, the clutch simply did not engage.
I'd also check the throwout bearing and replace it while it's apart.

If the flywheel was resurfaced incorrectly this may be the cause of your problem. When resurfacing the contact area the shop needs to make sure to remove the same amout from the pressure plate mounting area.
Had my flywheel resurfaced and they couldnt get the pins for the p-plate out so they left it. Same result. PS, Jacking up the rear, the wheels will turn freely in gear, the opposite wheel turns the other direction.

Thanks for the responses everybody. Conrad was right, it was the flywheel. Now she scoots. Thanks everyone.
