Can a 914 trans be used in a 911
I have a side shift transmission listed on E-Bay.
I got a question asking if this will fit in a 72 911. I have no idea if the 914 transmission will fit in any 911's. I always figured the the gears were in backwards because the engine and trany are in backwards in a 914. Does anyone know the answer to this question? Thanks...................Vern |

Yup...it fits...but will give you five reverse gears unless the ring gear is flipped....

And you will want to replace some of the shift mechanism that is inside the gearbox. Especially if you start with a side-shift transmission.
IMHO, not worth the hassle. --DD

Dave's right.
It's really more work than just finding another 911 box. You'll need to flip the ring gear, get a different rear cover, chasnge the shift mechanism internals and also, I believe the gear ratios were different for the 914 as well.. |
