Classic Car Inusurance.
Awhile back I decided to try to get some limited insurance for my 914. All I wanted was something that would cover me when I took my monthly trip around the block. I found a company "Leyland Insurance" they had an attractive price, until I find out that you must join the Porsche owners group also. That took the price past what I was willing to pay.
Today I did a search on here and found that some of you use either Hagertys or American Collectors. Are you guys happy with these companys and do you have to join the POG also to get the low rates? I just dont want to have to re invent the wheel here. Thanks in advance. |

No You do not have to join anything to purchase Hagerty. This has been a great insurance company for me. I've used them on two Porsches and another classic and they have always been reasonable.

I use Haggerty also. They are great. I pay $125/yr for full coverage. Only requirements are car must be stored in a locked garage and can't drive to and from work. Also, can't be a primary car and no under 25 y/o drivers. Pemco was charging me $650/yr. And no, you don't have to join any groups.

I use Farmers and have it on my homeowners package. $80.00 yr fullcoverage and $16 yr extra for $10000.00 replacement. Have to run classic tags which is a lifetime tag. Older guy get the best deals.

Trexx,
If you're looking for an independent provider, try Parrish-Heacock. Or you could ask your current insurance provider if they offer collector car insurance. I have State Farm, and my 914 is fully covered for around $100 a year, as long as it's not my daily driver, which it isn't... -Josh2 |

Well, I was online and found a company called AON. I got an instant quote of $100. I thought this is cool. So I sent off my info and waited for a reply. Got the reply: "Vehicle does not meet AON's minimum value or condition." When filling out the info I said that the auto was in "good" condition and worth 4k. I guess I should have said "excellent cond" and 14K eh?
I always hate when going out to look at a vehicle that someone calls "excellent" and find that its not even in good condition. So Im as honest as I can be. I dont care about them insuring the car for replacement value, I just want to drive the thing. I guess now I'll try one of the companys you guys mentioned. Im just wondering if I should "pump up" the value of the car? |

When I contacted Hagerty I told them I wanted to insure my car for $12K and how much would it cost? They said send photos and quoted me $125/yr. I said send the policy for review. I sent them a check after I reviewed the policy. That was it. No fighting over value. Guys I work with have used them for years and they have had good luck too.

Thanks eddie. I tried yesterday to sign up online. I decided to raise the value to 6k. It told me Id pay $94/yr. I got to the point where they wanted me to list my bank acct info and I wasnt comfortable with that and decided Id do the snail mail method. But first I'll wait to see if Im accepted. I guess I'll know Monday.

I pay 350 a year for full coverage with AAA. Granted I can and prove that I drive the car less than 5,000 miles a year.
My wife's is 950 on the 325i. I may have an advantage though because my company insures me on my company truck, which I drive 30,000 plus miles a year.

I am insured through Allstate. I pay somewhere around $80 a year and I can drive my 914 four days a month, all I need to do is call the office and let them know when I am driving it. If no one is there, then I can leave a message.

Doesn't sound like it's worth the savings of $40-$50 per year! Not trying to be harsh, just sounds too restrictive for that small of a savings.

Why pay more if It is only driven a couple of days a month, and I don't need permission, I just call and let them know that I am driving it so they can insure it.
