Fuel level gauge options
Guys,
I've got a 914-6 conversion with the traditional 911 combo gauge cluster. for oil temp and pressure. That leaves me with no fuel level gauge. In my first conversion, the previous owner took the stock 914 guage and basicallly strapped it up under the dash so you could see the fuel level gauge sticking down below the dashpad. I'm not doing that again. What other options do I have that will work with the factory sending unit? I'd rather not have to try to find or pay for the 904 style combo gauge. Thanks for the help, Dion |

A stick? you could go upscale and use a dowel.

I took the sender guts out of a stock gas gauge and installed them into a center console oil temp gauge. Scanned and printed a new fuel gauge face and glued it on. Looks stock and is mounted in the center console alond with a CHT and volt meter.
You can also try to find one of these VDO fuel gauges and mount it in the dash. Geoff

Bleyseng is correct
A VDO VW BUG compatible gage is the one to get; it works fine with the Porsche sender; I posted the part number on some other site about 6 months ago & no longer have it available My '70 sixer came from Germany setup that way, with the round gage in the console & I recently put in a new VDO gage as in the posting above

Put the fuel gauge in the bottom of your tachometer or you can bring your car to me for a restore or custom and I'll give you a 904 combo gauge free and installed.

How much for kits? Can you get them with or without the gauges? Discounts on 5 or more like a group buy?

Dion,
I used a stock 911 gauge with both the fuel level and oil level readouts, mounted inside a 914 center console. Yes, I also added an oil level sender unit into my 914/6 oil tank before installing the tank. If you don't want to use the center console, then the triple gauge mentioned by others would be a great way to go. Lyle |

I appreciate all of the feedback and ideas. Better than a stick, which I used in high school for my 1940 Chevy streetrod....
I've got my order in with Aaron for the repro 904 part. Just happen to have all of the loaner gauges. Should look great when finished! Dion |
