Cost of rebuild on a 2.0
Fellow Members, What are your estimates for a fairly mild rebuild on a 2.0 liter.

That is pretty wide open.
You mean parts or having someone do it for you. I'd guess 1500.00 minimun in parts and required machine work. Rises quickly if anything is actually damaged or heads need much more than a valve job. I ended up with about 2500.00 in parts and machine in mine, two big ticket items were heads repair and P/C.

I was planning to do it myself. Just parts and machine work.

As DuckRider said that's a pretty wide open question....
It really depends on the current configuration and what your goals are. A stock top end rebuild with no surprises ( never had one like that personaly) could be as little as $600. This is for a stock valve grinding job , surfacing the heads, gaskets , re-furbishing the stock cylinders and new rings. If your clutch has less then 20000 miles you could probably get away with replacing just the disk $70 bucks other wise figure another $200 for pressure plate and clutch. The next level would be to replace the P&C ,300 -600, depending on the quality ..you pretty much get what you pay for . Bottom end work , if needed, adds another 400-1000 depending on the amount of parts and machine work required...the condition of your cam and lifters ect. Others with greater experices may have a more accurate vision..I have only rebuilt 4 <2liter type 4s and 2 2.0s. If you car is your hobby, and not your daily driver, decide how much money you can piss away , cause the cost of tweeking a 914 rises @ a pretty steep rate. Think about the $ per hp gained and the cost per mile of ownership. Your milage may very....good luck

Are you rebuilding the Van or a 914? I didnt know there were any 914's on Vashon Island. Check out the 914Club.com site for the local events and attend as we are fairly crazy around here.

No, the van has already seen it's last rebuild. I was planning on a 914. There are a few 914 on the island and a few more 911s. I'll check out the 914club events. If you don't mind a 911 showing up, maybe I'll roll over for a few events.

We always invite taildraggers to our events! We just have fun and enjoy Porsches. Just bring the wine and cheese and we'll let you in. hehe, we drink animal beer and eat chips usually.
