reinforcing the pedal cluster area question
 

Hi All

I have heard that the pedal area of the floor is not terribly robust and some folks have made modifications to this area so that when you get on the brake pedal, the whole thing feels better. This area on my car does not seem to have any rust but since it is going to the body shop tommorrow, is there anything I should consider having them do for this while its there at the shop? Thanks

I know people who have had a doubler welded onto this area. They say that it helped the pedal feel. ("Doubler" == another sheet of metal covering the same area. You'll have to bend it to fit and drill the appropriate holes and such.)

As an alternative, others have fabricated a brace between the master cylinder and the suspension crossmember. See about a third of the way down this page:

What actually moves or flexs' is the floor around the masterbrake cylinder. This due to the pressure applied onto the cylinder.

rather than create a rust trap in between two layers of metal, it is easier and LIGHTER to brace the master cylinder (instead of the floor)

here is what I've done
Ran the same thing on my old race car for 10+ years too.
could be welded onto a steel stock suspension crossbar.
