Battery Placement/1.7 GAS
Hey Guys,
I've been considering moving my battery to the rear trunk, it sounds good but do I end up sacrificing space for my top? Also I've been using regular unleaded gas in my 70 1.7, it has a 89 octane rating. Is this the gas to use? or should I be using premium or super unleaded? |

Wasn't the battery deal covered in an earlier note? Check through this BBS.
On the fuel, there are two answers. Answer one is, if you know the car doesn't ping, stick with what you're running. Answer two is that the factory recommended 98 RON octane for the early 1.7s. This corresponds to about 92-94 pump octane here in California. The spec may be for "worst case" operation in conditions you aren't encountering--e.g., a really hot day in the desert when you're standing on the throttle. But that was what the factory recommended at the time the car was built. See the FAQ on Tim's Fan Page (www.estinc.com/porsche) for a more detailed explanation of the octane rating systems. --DD |
