924 TURBO parts swap into a 914?
I've got a good 924 Turbo that I'd like to put the 5 LUG Monster brakes onto my 924. Anyone done this?
The 924 has a good motor, Anyone know if these fit into a 914? 145HP Stock Water Cooled power in a 914 I think would be a blast. 200 HP with an Intercooler would be pretty obtainable. |

your best bet for putting the five lug brakes on would be to just switch out the suspension, brakes, struts, swaybars, and everyhting, thats the most effective way to put new brakes on a 914, oh yeah...youll have to chang the master cylinder too. in responce to whether or not the motor will fit...people but chevy V8's in them, so it should fit, have but your only problem will be how your gonne get a trans in the car, because the 924 trans doesnt bolt to the engine and you cant bolt a trans to the engine beause the starter is in the way. the engine mounts on a 924 are totally different too. the engine will fit but you problay wont be able to go very far in the car because therell be no trans. hope that answers your questions.

the best way to put new brakes on a 914 is to switch out the suspension, brakes, sway bars, and everyhting and youll need a new master cylinder. i hope you do get them on the car, youd bed able to stop on a dime.but your only problem with swopping the suspension is that the 924 will be ALOT stiffer than that of the 914, a 924 or 944 turbo is esciantlly a race car. in responce to the engine fitting, it will fit, ive seen 914's with chevy v8's in them. theres one problem with putting the 924 engine in....you wont be able to put a trans in the car...in a 924 the engine is up front and the trans is in the rear.. and a trans wont bolt up to a 924 eng because the starter is in the way. you could put the engine in the car, but you wont be going very fast or very far. if you did get a 924 eng in and a trans..youd have to mount the radiator up front, like on a boxster, and run water lines under the car to the radiator. i hope that answers all your ???'s.

Well I was going to do the V8 thing. I build a 350 chevy which is sitting on a stand right next to the 914. I like that idea but don't have the coin required to drop a 915 style trans in it and KNOW I will break the 901. The 924 motor would be lighter, rev better and not break the trans. It also would still be a Porsche. I would use a Kennedy Adapter. The 924 Turbo Trans might work. The Starter on the 924 Turbo is on the BACKSIDE of the motor just like the 914 vs. the frontside of the flywheel like it is on most cars including the 924 (non Turbo). I'd use the 901 trans so I wouldn't have to mess with linkage. I've got a set of 11" rear 916 flares and 9" fronts with the 916 bumpers for this little project.
I wondered if anyone had done it. 924 Turbo brakes are actually 911 front rotors and 928 rears. I was told I would need 911 struts due to the larger spindle (and Bearing).. My local wrecker wants $600 for some 912 pieces! I was thinking more like $50 per side... just for spindles. |

sorry man....i hate to burst your bubble....but 924 engines arent porsche engines...theyre audi. it wasnt porsche anyways, 914/4's were built at the vw factory and have 90% vw parts on them. true the chevy would strip the gears...but that car is so light if you got the money for a new trans youd be very happy..w/that much damn torque talk about a fast 0-60 time. also w/ the 924 engine youd have to make sure that your headers from the engine arent in the way of the trans and youd have to get the exhaust shortened, unless you want it sticking out the ass end 5ft. i think it would be easier to the chevy in, except for the $$ for a new trans....but all the 924 engine would be nice, but it would be such a pain in the ass to get it in a work out new motor mounts for it. man....tuff decision...id flip a coin. hey, i work at a mechaninc shop w/ the best porsche mechanic around, the porsche dealer sends cars to this guy, ill ask him if it wouold be hard to put the 924 engine in and compare it to the idea of the chevy.

Well It's a 924 Turbo Motor which is about the best 924 motor there was. 145HP is stock trim. Totally different from the standard 924 (Slightly Different Block, Totally Different Head).. I did some rough measurements and it's 2-3" Shorter than the 350 Chevy. A Tad Taller. Problem is KEP doesn't make an adapter to connect it to the 901 Trans.
The 924 Turbo/944 Trans is probally stronger but I don't want to mess with the shifter linkage and there's no Clutch Fork in the Trans or Starter Hole. So I guess that Idea is SCRAP. Anyone need a 924 Turbo Motor and Trans? I need some 911 Struts and 5 lug rear hubs. |
