throttle cable encounter
I was driving from San Diego to L.A. this weekend, when about 12 miles from my destination, something happened. I pulled into the fast lane to pass someone, but when I punched the throttle the pedal hit the floor and didn't come up, the engine fell down to idle. I nearly killed myself when I tried to get over four lanes of traffic into the shoulder, as I was quickly losing speed. I figured that I snapped a throttle cable.............I was right. It snapped right where it exits the tunnel. I pulled out the half of the cable attached to the throttle body and wrapped it around the blower motor support, so the throttle was about 1/3 open. Got in, and banged through the gears till I got to my folks house( my destination). It was quite embarrasing going through the gears cause every time the clutch was pushed in, the engine would rev up in the 5,000 range. Every stoplight I had to turn the motor off, and while on surface streets, I regulated my speed my turning on and off the ignition. I picked up a terrycable throttle from performance products since they were only about 6 miles away. Installation was a charm. Thanks for the advice to Dan at Pelican. I guess the moral here is..........check your cables every so often for wear because they can go at the least expected moment.
