Acceleration!

Hey you guys, I hate to sound like a cherry but yesterday a friend tossed me the keys to his 97 911 turbo. He knows about my 914's and pretty much downplayed that beast! I have read about the turbo but MY GOD! That thing is totally unbelievable! I will never be the same again! You have probably already guessed I want to go faster. I currently have a big four which I thought was pretty fast. I have however never driven a 914-6 or a 914 converted to a V-8. As far as acceleration does anything come close to what I experienced? I have two 914's to build still and want a rocket ship! Don't tell me to buy a turbo engine because I know it's coming. I just want to draw on other's experiences in other fast cars (914's) and get some opinions. Thanks,

I've heard that driving a 914 off a cliff will get you pretty close to the 0-60 time of the '97 turbo---might affect driveability though...

As I see it, the 911 turbo experience is completely doable. The trick is to keep it as reliable, and driveable, with a linear torque curve. Do you realize that your 914 WILL drive circles around that turbo if you had his same setup? Your comparing a 30 year old technological wonder to a car that has had many more years of developement and advancements. Can you imagine where the 914 would be now with the same benifit? Can you say 914 Boxster? One thing you friends 911 will never have is our mid-engine advantage. Any option you decide on will be better than a tail happy 911. So put your 914 on steroids and go out and spank em! You could keep it all Porsche, have a linear torque curve and have a....V8... http://www.d.umn.edu/~jrichar4/alien.htm

A 2 liter turbo will keep up with an early 911 turbo, but not the later ones.
Also, a v8 914 will keep up with a 97. Not the same sound or feeling, but if you are just after acceleration, these are two options.

Get a V-8. I was given a ride once in one of PRO-SCA's, now RedDawg Racing, 914-V8s. It scared the **** outta me. I just may have to put a V-8 in mine.

If you want 911 speed, buy a 911.

OR

goto www.renegadehybrids.com.

Spend the money, kill the 914.
Okay, you will need to spend lots of cash to make the 914 hold up to the hp and namely the torque.

But it can be done.
