My Blinker is Busted

Well sort of...What I hope is an easy question: for my 74 914

The return function on my turn signal switch doesn't return the turn signal indicator to off after a left or right turn.

Without taking it apart first, do I need to replace the turn signal lever arm or something else?

Thanks for your help

Did it just stop working or has it always been like this or did you just install an aftermarket steering wheel? In any case there is a raised boss that causes the switch to go back to neutral position. I have installed wheel adapters backwards so that the switch did not cancel as it is easy to do. You can see the boss with the wheel pulled. Good luck.

It actually worked fine until recently. Awhile back I seem to remember a small (1/4" square?) piece of what appeared to be pot metal on the drivers side carpet and wondered...what could that be?

The turn signal return function seemed to work for several weeks after I noticed the metal scrap...so I'm not sure the scrap and the faulty turn signal are connected.

I do have a Momo wheel with adapter installed. I have never removed the adapter, although I did have the wheel off about 6 months ago. Hmmm...

I guess I just need to know if I need a new turn signal lever, or if it *could* be anything else and I should open it up to discover for myself.

I just don't want to open it up twice if I don't have too.

Thanks.

I would guess the little piece of metal is the bump from inside the steering wheel adapter and not all of it had broken off till now. It is easy enough to pull the wheel and hub, the tab is on the side facing the dash to see if it broke. Make sure to mark the hub so it and the wheel will go on straight. Good luck.
