44 webber air cleaners...
I have 44 webbers on my 74 2.0L (with a carb webcam) and I currently have K&N air cleaners on them. however, there is only about 1/8 of an inch of clearance from the top of the velocity stacks to the cap of the air cleaner. So the carbs are not getting proper air flow, and the car is running rich. Do any of you know of a different air cleaner setup that would work with these carbs?
Thanks for the help, Tony |

Look in the VW dune buggy magizines, there is all sorts of choices when it comes to air cleaners for Webers. Or go to a local K&N distributor and order filters that are an inch or two taller. Double check how tall you can go, I am sure you still want to close your engine cover.

you can also go with shorter stacks.
Check with CB Performance. |

Tony,
I found the same situation on my car with webbers. I experimented by purchasing 4 short air filters (3 1/2 inch I think), and glueing them together into a pair of 7 inch filters. K and N makes practically any size but this was the cheap route. Did I mention that I have no drip pan on my car? So these new tall filter stacks have about 1/2 inch of clearance from the top of the engine lid. I found NO NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE for all of my troubles. In theory it should allow better intake flow but this was NOT DISCERNABLE. brant |
