Original tire size on 914?

I am curious as to what the original tire size on the 914 was. I know it was posted a long time ago and it was a very strange size. I just can't remember what it was.

Thanks
Pritchard

I think the original was called a 165 HR 15, which would equate to a 165 80 R15 today...although, I don't think they make them anymore.

Actually, from the tech spec book:

155SR15 (4-1/2J x 15)
165SR15 (4-1/2J x 15 or 5-1/2J x 15)
165HR15 (4-1/2J x 15 or 5-1/2J x 15)

Don't know the exact sizes in todays terms.

From what I recall the aspect ratio of the so-called "bug tires" was around 82.5%

In other words, approx 165/83R15 in today's sizing terms.

Thanks guys. The last tire size (165/83R15) is the one I remember seeing. I am using the Palo Alto Speedometer Error Calculator to find a tire size that would provide a close speedo reading. Are ther other Speedo Calculators online?

Thanks

Try
http://www.dirtroad.com/gears.htm#tires

It's for off roaders, but it can calculate all kinds of information based on gearing/tires/rpm and all that jive...
