The interior of a 914, while at speed is at a lower pressure than the engine compartment. I found this to be true when I blew my engine at 120 MPH or so on the CA Speedway front straight. I could not see for 20 seconds or so due to the oil smoke. Having said that, any opening that will let air/fumes from the engine compt into the interior needs to be plugged. That is why there are boots that cover the shift rod bushing, etc. Also make sure there are no exhaust leaks anywhere and that the muffler exits out the back. Good luck

When my engine was rebuilt, I had a huge cloud of smoke when the engine warmed up. When I got home, my mechanic told me to leave the top off and let it run. Went away in 1/2 hour or so/ Oil had gotten in the heat exchangers. Never had a problem since. Is it possible oil got in there?

If your problem presists, I would take some carb cleaner and clean off your heads and HE's....turn the car on and look and see where your oil is dripping from....usually it comes from the pushrod tube seals (although my leaks are coming from the rear main seal and the oil cooler)....

enjoy
