914-6 rare wheels

Does anyone know what nice used factory 914-6 15x5.5" molly wheels are worth, and where on the web I might find pics? Thanks

They're "Mahle" wheels, or "Gas burners". A Google search will turn up a website or two; some folks like to put them on VWs.

914-6 had the 5 lugs, the 4 lugs are the ones folks stick on the VW's

I believe that the "wide five" pattern is 5x130mm, just like the 911 wheels. And people stick the five-lug ones on pre-disk-brake VWs and VW kit cars.

I believe "wide five " is in reference to the pre ' 67 bug and 5 bolt 356 wheels.

Right. "wide five" is 5x205. Lots of guys run 5X130, but with custom spacers/disks/drums.

Here's the Mahle 5 bolt Gas-Burner web site:

http://www.gasburner.net/

Note the cars wearing these wheels, mostly VWs.

Yup, I was just talking to one of my Volksie buddies, and he corrected me on that. Does anyone know what the "narrow five" spacing is?

the 5 lug version (the lightest factory street rim made for Porsches and the only magniesium wheel available for early street cars) sell in the $1000 per set range, +/- a few hundered depending on condition and how badly you want them

Are you a Porsche newbie?

The "narrow five" is 5 on 130mm.

I know that the bolt spacing on 911s (and 944s, and Boxsters, and most other cars that wear the Porsche badge) is 5x130mm. I wasn't sure what the "narrow five" VW spacing was.

So I guess I'm a VW newbie...

Ohhh, you're talking about the 5 lug bolt pattern on those new fake watercooled VWs. Sorry, don't know, VW stopped making cars in the 70s.

I thought I was talking about some of the old aircooled VWs... Maybe some of the later Buses? The new "fake VWs" don't use bolt patterns on their wheels that let us folks with "real VWs" swap wheels with them.

Oh well, it's something of a moot point. Plus, this thread has really wandered away from its origins...

Wide five up to 67, 68 they went to 4x130, same as 914s but different offset.

914/6s are 5x130 as are 911s.

356s were wide five up to 63....64 and 65 "C"s were 5x130 and also went to four wheel disc brakes.
