I wonder how well it holds up.

I have extensive experience with metal spray welding and plasma spray machines, we used to use them to repair rotating elements in the oil industry.
Based on what I know about the process, I say run away from this stuff, far, far away.
Sounds like another miracle cure from J.C. Whitney.
