Crap....exhaust stud backing out....
Pretty sure I already know the answer but thought I'd ask in case something new has come up since it happened to me last....
I'm assuming when a stud loosens up the only alternative is dropping the exhaust, drill and a helicoil? I got my exhaust flanges tight across the board and fired up the engine. Heard a popping sound and found that one of the flanges had loosened up and a little blue flame was visible.....stud backed out easily.....it's a used engine so no one to blame. Any "other alternatives"?

I was going to say red loctite as well.
Load the stud up, thread it in, let it cure. try it... KT

Get a stepped stud(s), there are a couple of sizes available.

OK....cocktail of red loctite and jb weld.....let it set for the night and day....try and crank it down.
Otherwise it's a search for the step stud....

Not sure about the web, I get mine from Vee Parts which has a store in National City and El Cajon. If you don't find any by the Palms Springs vintage race (11/19-20) I'll have mine with me and would let them go cheaply.

ended up using a helicoil....was prety easy. Used a 90 degree drill, tap and coil....put the stud in and it's tight and leak free.

Thank yew....gotta get it over to my buds house...
I have an emissions monitor he stores for me and I'll tune it with that....it's a rip roaring 486 that takes 25 minutes to boot up and callibrate.......but it gives us a benchmark as opposed to stick yer nose down there and saying....IZ THAT RICH OR A FART?
