A six conversion question
I’ve already decided to let a company with experience drill and press studs into my rear hubs, but how tough is it to change the direction of the outlet on my oil cooler (on a 2.7l – yes, yes, I know)? Is this a job to trust a local machinist with? TIA!

I'm sorting out the same problem at the moment. I plan to cut the fitting off the end of the cooler and tig welg an aluminium 90 deg elbow in its place with the inlet pointing towards the front of the car.

the oil cooler on my 2.2L has a blue Erls 90 deg aluminum elbo: metric threads on one side; AN12 pipe thread on the other glude the elbo into the oil cooler with JB weld joust to be sure.
You should be able to get this fitting special order through any speed shop. |
Will that solve the clearance problem? I have yet to do a trial fit of the engine so I have no idea. I'll get to that stage after I get the rear suspension off (I like having lots of room to work http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif )

I put a 2.7l in my car a couple years ago. What a blast.
Anyway, I had a local welding shop cut the fitting at a 45 deg angle and reweld it. They left enough of the original bracket that held it in place that I was able to fabricate a new bracket and rivet it together. Have not had any leaks and it fits great. |
If you are talking about the oil line that hits the swing arm...I cut the fitting off and used a bent piece of rubber radiator hose...with screw clamps. Still works great after three years of every day driving.

For the suction lines, I used AN 16 SS oil lines on my 914-6 conversion. For my next motor (going from 3.0 to 3.2 http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif ), I am going to have a 90 degree AN 16 fitting connector attached to the end of oil line by the cooler. I prefer to use AN 16 lines since they are aprox the same size as the metric lines that are used on a 911.

Doh! I *finally* found the instructions for installing my oil tank (that's the problem with buying parts for a project over a span of years). The tank kit came with everything needed -- including this 90 degree threaded angle piece which, golly gee whiz, screws right into the oil cooler after tapping the cooler to "NPT 3/4-14"
