front struts/shocks

i have some adjustable front shocks, mounted in struts that I'd like to put on my car, I plan to swap the adjustable shocks between the spare strusts,a nd the ones ont he car (thus i won't have to deal with redoing the wheel bearings)

Thing is we can't figure how to remove the shock from the strut, we have the strut in a vice on the bench, and tried to lossen the big nut on top (after peening down the lock ring)

The nut just flexes like it is mounted on rubber, but it does not appear to budge ont he threaded shaft it is on.

So how can one replace the front shocks???

any advice?

thanks

If you got a extra collar/nut. Just put a big ole pipe wrench or similar tool onit with a long pipe to it. get as much leverage as you can. It will come loose. Righty tighty lefty loosy

Sounds like you're trying to remove the nut that holds the top of the shock rod to the rubber bushing that normally bolts to the fender well? If so, you can hold the rubber mount and washer still with a large set of channel-locks or a pipe wrench.

If you're talking about the gland nut that holds the shock body into the strut body, the pipe wrench should work.
