How much oil for 914-6 ?
Hi all,
Well after 12 years of work (10 years in storage) I am back on my 914-6 project. Should be able fire her in the next month. '74 2.7, RS pistons and cylinders, Webers/intake (PMS), mild head work (CMW), turbo oil pump and return mod, very early Velios oil tank (holds oil), RX7 turbo cooler, AJ oil thermostat, large S/S oil lines and AN fittings every where. So here is the question: How do I determine how much oil to put in ? (I sure don't want to start it with too little !!!!!!!) thanks, bob |
Put in 8 quarts.....run it until the thermostat opens around 180F. Then with the engine RUNNING pull the dipstick and fill the oil tank to the bottom line.

I started with 10 quarts in a fresh engine with no external coooler. Had to add two more when it was warm (Velios tank).
|
BTW.....I would also spin it over with the coil wire disconnected to get some oil pumping thru.

Thanks guys.
Yea, I usually spin them over with no plugs to get the oil circulating. thanks again |
