bus 2.0 vs. P.car 2.0 crank, different?

Hello.
I've heard mixed views on the differnces between the bus and Porsche crank and rods. Are they really the same thing or not? Some have said that the P.car crank has oil flutes to keep the oil circulating better, and some have said that one is forged and the other cast (not sure I believe that one) and that there is a diffference in the flywheel end. I was tempted to do a 78mm Scat stroker, but its way beyond my budget.. I can pick up a complete 2.0 bus engine for 100$ here in KC and save some bucks.. So, if anyone could conclusively say one way or the other, I'd greatly appreciate it...
Thanks..!
Chris

I do not know if they are exactly the same. However, I do know that they are completely interchangeable. You can use the Bus crank and rods, and new 94mm P&Cs to get stock 1971cc displacement. I do not know of any real differences myself. Tom Wilson's book claims there are no differences at all, but I don't completely trust his information. (E.g., is there any such thing as a magnesium "VO" code Type IV case??)

The case in question is a early type-4 1600cc only made for a very short time. Steve

The bus crank I have has a pilot bearing in the end of the crank. Where as in the 914 I believe the pilot bearing is set in the flywheel (too lazy to dig through the garage).

As to the oiling, I've only seen the VW tech bulitain where 1mm notches were made to the rods to increase oil splash on the uderside of the piston. Any fluting can be done at home or by the crack reconditioning machine shop. Only coment my machinist made about my bus crank was that the journals were not hardened so I shouldn't have to worry about having them re-hardened after he re-sized them to the first undersize.

Where can I get my hands on that VW tech bulletin? Sounds like all I have to do is drill out the pilot bearing and groove it... or do I just use the bus flywheel and lighten it? Any differences there? Will be mating it w/ a sideshift. Any advice on clutches & PP?
The engine in question is going to consist of an EC case with a 2.0 heads, 94mm Mahles, Weber 44s and a Webcam 86a w/ all thier trimmings. And a first for me.... Any tips are well appreciated..!
Thanks.

The bus FW won't work, it has a different offset of the teeth so the starter won't engage (I've heard it CAN be done with some mods but isn't worth it unless yopu have a 2.8L and need the 228mm clutch).

The pilot bearings can be pryed out, no problem.
