Accelerator pedal/linkage trouble
I've had a number of problems within my accelerator circuit and am curious if others have experienced similar issues too. Here's my best guess at what's happening:
1) My new dual weber linkage began to stick a little. It seems to stick when the pedal is first depressed ,then loosenes up. The butterflies are both smooth as silk, the pivot at the pedal cluster is rebuilt and has no issues, the terry cable moves freely, and the linkage even feels OK. 2) My gas pedal is shot and can wiggle side-to-side by about +/- 30 degrees! Due to these two issues, I was driving the other day and something in the circuit stuck, I pressed harder, my gas pedal rocked towards the clutch pedal, and bent the pivoting tab that connects the throttle cable to the pedal cluster. I know I need to repair my pedal...a hinge hasn't been good enough so i am buying a new pedal. My worry is that the main culprit is this resistance in my accelerator cable circuit. The confusing part is that this issue arose over the past couple of weeks and I havent done anything to the linkage in that time. I'm wondering if my linkage geometry coupled with a gremlin is at fault. I have a nice cable mount that aims the cable towards the linkage nearly parallel to the ground. The linkage lever then drops down nearly perpendicularly to the ground. The resistance I feel at the pedal is when I first begin to depress it. Any thoughts, similar experiences, rants are appreciated! I am very frustrated and my knee hurts from trying to aim my pedal and fight the resistance. Thanks! |

Try lubricating your cable. Mine seemed just fine when layed out but as soon as it was bent into position and applied pressure it got really sticky. Pulled it out, lubricated and the problem went away.
