alternator light on tach off when i brake
The altenator light on my 2.0 came on this morning on the way to work. That was odd in itself, but even more odd was that every time I step on the brake peddle the tach and the fuel guage both drop to the bottom. I had to run alot of errands today so I started the car probably 8 or 9 times over the course of the day and the battery doesn't seem run down at all. Any ideas before I pull the alternator? The belt seems to be adjusted pretty well, it could probably be a little tighter. I'm not looking forward to getting at the alternator so I'm looking for other possibilities first ( I know, just replace the alternator) Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ron |
Short in the brake light circuit? Tach and fuel guage are electrical, somehow when you're hitting the brakes you're shorting out the power to your guage cluster it seems like.

Replace/clean the fuse S9 and its contact points. All will be okey.

Is that fuse #9 or fuse #8? One of the two is either popped or the ends of the fuse and/or the "fingers" that hold the fuse in are dirty or corroded.

Phil.......I love you. (In a good guy, great advice, thank you, heterosexual way).....(maybe I should edit this)
Thanks for saving me from pulling my car apart. Ron |
Being as observant as i am, i didn't notice the pile of fuses laying on the floor board. I apparently pulled a few out this morning when i set the bag I use to carry files back and forth to work there briefly to run back into the house. Funny thing, its the perfect height for a fuse removal tool. Guess i better find a cover huh?
