Hi everyone, recent feedback from you guys has indicated that our catalog needed some work. Well, before we started beefing up our catalog, we needed to make sure that our infrastruture was a-ok. So, I just finished upgrading our search engine on the catalog to a much faster, and much more flexible one (SQL-based if you know what that means).
Please check it out at: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/search_query.htm and let me know what you think, or even better, buy something there! Coming later on tonite will be the SQL update for the project list (will make it much, much faster!). Thanks, Wayne |

Looks good! Very quick and I dont have to navigate through other stuff. Do you want to give the user the ability to search based on car type?

Adding a filter for car type would be good. Another idea would be a search engine based on parts diagrams (for people who have no idea what the name of the part they want is -- somewhat like what you have now . . . )

Wayne,
Nice job! It's much faster on both my work system and my home system. Probably was a lot of work on your part to make the upgrade and casual software users rarely notice things like that. Thanks for your diligent efforts! Between this and the new 700 Mhz P3 laptop I got last week at work, this site smokes! (The T1 line at work helps too!) Now the Boss will never catch me peeping at your site during the day!!!! No, I don't know what SQL is. My 13 years in the computer products industry were in 3270 mainframes and I used to program my printer motion control sofware by banging two bare wires together. Kinda like Bosch did when programming 914 brain boxes! Hey! maybe a future occupation for me! Anyway, Great site. I show it to lesser mortals who don't have 914's and they all drool! I like it. A few suggestions. I did find a field asking which car specific catalog I wanted to search in, (after my 3rd attempt at finding brake parts) but when I clicked in 914 and typed in the word 'brake', I got 15+ pages of brake stuff from every model you supply parts for (911 etc.) I suggest adding the car specific field to the first page. Also, as a convenience, the search page should default to the catalog you most recently searched in when you renew or refine your search. Once I start looking for 914 parts, I'm going to continue looking for 914 parts until I decide different. ps I love the fact that you guys continue to refine and update your accessibility. Despite what some of us said (myself included!) earlier this month, you notice we still come back here! My $.02 ------------------ Herb '72 1.7 Tangerine 'Teen '74 2.0 Red Rustmobile |
