This is a question for those guys running headers or running without the heater system hooked up. On the bottom of the fan housing there are two ports on either side that feed air into the heatexchangers...well, being in texas I have no real need for heat, so I never hooked up the parts that feed that air into the exhangers. One of the mechanics that I have delt with said that I could block off these ports and that would force more cool air to flow over the heads and cylinders. This sounded good to me, but I thought I should ask for a second opinion. So any of you guys running headers or without heat...what are you doing on this front?
Thanks for the help, Tony |

You can block them off if there is no use for the heat. You will get a little more air, but I doubt that you could see a difference on a temp ga.

I live in Mich.......the only time my 74 goes out is when it's nice ...........so this year I gutted all the warm air bull**** comming off of the motor fan and closed the flaps off with angle brackets and hose clamps so that it could be returned back to stock some time later on.......Reading all the teck articles about how important it is to make sure that every little hole(IE spark plug boots )is pluged to insure proper amount of cooling air ......this has to help.......I also removed my charcol canister and pluged the hole that fed air to it off the fan.......when The first 90 degree day arrives I'll let you know if it helps............A properly running type 4 engine should not need extra cooling but what the hell it can't hurt................74 1.8
