rear calipers needed

Hi All -
I just had a seal let go on a rear caliper. I cannot locate a rebuit pair anywhere (pelican, troutman,PP or *ugh* AA). Any ideas? The car is at the repair shop. They say they can rebuild them, but the price is almost 3 times higher than the listed amount for rebuilds due to the labor cost. Anyone know where else to try?
Thanks!
Scott S

I got mine from Performance Products(PP) a couple of years ago...do they not list them anymore? I did have to get them to send me a third one because they sent to driver's side calipers, and yes, they are different in case ya didn't know.

I think they cost me around $100 a piece for rebuilt ones. Mine were basically rusted shut, so I didn't even want to think of trying to rebuild them.

If they don't list them, you might try giving them a call.

Paul

Scott:

GPR (800) 321-5432 ask for Greg Landry. Their rebuilts run around $180.00. [b] Or [b/] you can get rebuild kits from them for $18.00 each and follow the procedure in the tech article here on the site. It's a bit messy but an entirely do-able thing if you have the time and inclination (and don't mind saving $300+!)

And if Performance has them for $100.00, jump on it. I have seen them for as much as $225 each.

Good Luck!

Scott,

Not a bad job at all. The main tool you need is a good wire brush to get 20 someodd years of road crud off, and some good solvent (couple of cans of brake cleaner). I just rebuilt mine last week, and had them painted and back on the car in about 6 hours. The kits from GPR are very complete, they even have the caliper halve seals. At $18.00 a kit, you're making money by doing it yourself!

Performance lists them but they only rebuild yours. New Front and Rear Calipers are $325.00 each outright stocks them for immediate shippment. Steve

just buy some good used ones...

I recenty sold all 4 nice working calipers off my car for $140. I am sure there are more people who are upgrading their brakes and don't need the stock units, look around...

I going with Steve. First I need to make sure the shop didn't just mess up the venting adjustment. If the leak persists he has got my business. Thanks for all of the info today Steve!
