PCV Valve System Analysis

Thought I'd posted this before, but it looks like I didn't...

Below is a link to a web page where I analyzed the PCV system used on the 2.0L D-Jet 914's:

http://members.rennlist.com/pbanders/PCV.htm

This is an interesting system, and is often neglected and unmaintained in many 914's. Proper operation reduces emissions, improves idle stability, and keeps your oil cleaner. Replacement PCV valves are still available from your Porsche dealer for about $10.

Great info (as usual) for those of us that want to keep the d-jet system. Thanks!

Its next to the oil filler on the breather tower. There should be a hose coming out of the oil filler/breather and at the bottom of that hose is the PVC valve.

Reading about the PCV I am wondering whether my 2.0 GC engine does have one as well, did not find it yet by now... Any idea where - if one is there - it is located?
Thanks.
HM.

Same place as Geoff mentioned, next to the oil filler. There's a hole in the oil breather (the thing that's held to the engine case by a wire bale) that it fits into. If your hole is filled with something else, then the PCV's been removed.

If I recall correctly, the "GC" code engines (75-76 2.0) have a different setup. Or at least some of them do; I'm not sure if all of them are different from the earlier cars (as far as PCV is concerned). I know that at least some of them do not have vents in the heads, and I am pretty sure that at least some of them do not have a PCV valve in the oil breather. And the breather hose goes to the air cleaner, rather than the intake manifold.

As you can see, though, I am very foggy on the exact details... I will check the Parts Book and see if there are specific years listed for the PCV valve, though if there aren't I am not sure it proves anything conclusively.

Does anyone else have conclusive evidence about the GC-code motor PCV system?

GC's are different, you learn something new here all the time. Regardless, there has to be some system for getting blowby and vapors out of the crankcase and back into the motor for re-burning.

I had the same question on my 75 2.0... i took the breather off and didnt find one. The hose goes from the oil filler to the aircleaner like Dave said.. Should i have one???

Interesting - you have to wonder how well a passive system like this works, and why Porsche/VW made the change - especially considering that the 75/76's had even more stringent emissions controls.

No PCV valve on my old '75 2.0L. Maybe the Cap'n can shed some light?
