why so high?

Can anyone clue me in on why the price is so high for this car? Makes me regret a couple of past car sales.

boston914 05-26-2006 10:19 AM

Notice that the reserve has not been met.

I have seen sellers have their pals bid auctions up, but not quite to the reserve. They do this in hopes that a real bidder will step up to the price and meet the reserve.

It will be interesting to see if that auction meets the reserve.

It's quite strange to me after looking at the conditions. I'm getting the bug to own a 914 again. I got some pictures back that I took of mine before I sold it a couple of years ago. If it only ran as well as it looked.

The listing has no photos of the engine compartment.

The seller says "no rust that he is aware of".

As far as I know, all '76 cars came with a console, and I do not see one in this car.

If this one sells for over $10K, I will be surprised.

looks like a piece i would not buy it for that much

Considering I just spent 2K less for a far nicer car 2 months ago... I would let it go...

teenerted1 05-26-2006 03:48 PM

"In the original description, we said the 3rd gear was out. It is not the 3rd gear. The 4th gear is out"

this is not a feature i am looking for for $9k+

Not all '76 cars came with a console. Before I installed one in mine it did not have one.

'76 cars were a hodgepodge of whatever was left on the shelves and were really made in '75.

With a dead transmission, the car's worth only 15-20% of what they're trying to sell it for.

That was a friggin' joke. Some people scoffed and called shil bidding. At first I wasn't passing such judgement, but PULEEEEEEZZE. Reserve not met at $9099!??? I wouldn't have paid $1000 for that problem pit. They were either lame scamming bastards, or they were more ignorant that I can imagine. BS either way. :stromberg: :stinks: :bull****: :whatevericonyouwantitstinks: LAME!

I'm glad it wasn't just me. It made me worry about the selling price on my last 2 914's. I am starting to get the urge again, I guess I better start saving up.

pbanders 05-27-2006 08:13 PM

That auction is bogus. Nobody would have bid those amounts for car in such poor condition. Something's wrong here.

monkamarm2000 05-28-2006 08:44 AM

looking at the bid history I'd say jd855 is the culrprit! lol Let alone its a rubber bumper mobile, they just dont fetch that much.

40 bids, up to $9k+?!?! Please tell me there is something about this car that I am missing. If it goes for this much, needing the work it needs, I'd say the value of our cars is going up faster than any of us expected.

The value of our cars remains status quo. I'm sure the next bid triggers the reserve @ $9,100.

monkamarm2000 05-31-2006 10:19 AM

if you do a search on the people who bid on it you will see they overlap, so either by buisness or something else they know each other. even going back a bit. For example in 01 snowhill the seller had a transaction with cokebox.

Yeah yah. :D

I rarely go off on such a rant, but that one called for it.
