So just how tall can you be?

Just how tall of a monkey can you be and still drive a 914? Err...with the roof on. If I really want the tank commander experience I'll have to buy a scout car and drive it around. ;)

The reason I ask is that I'm a pretty tall drink of water at 6'6". I know I fit in early 911s, but was thinking maybe a 914 would work for me as well. It's air cooled...I already got my water pumper urge satisfied with a 924S a while back. :)

Just kinda thinkin out loud....

Thanks in advance! SmileWavy

Depends on how you're built. I'm only 6'1", but I have trouble fitting in lots of cars. 911s with sunroofs, for instance. Lotsa space between the bottom of my butt and the top of my head, I guess.

On the other hand, I know very tall people who fit in cars I consider tight with no problems at all.

Anyway, I fit in a 914 just barely--my hair brushes the headliner when I sit up full-straight. I fit OK with a helmet on if I pull the seat cushion out.

Best advice: Sit in one and see. Not one with a race seat, either, as those can really change how much room there is in the car...

At 6ft & moderate build i didn't like the seat position with cushion in place, so removed it & added a very thin pad. Gives 3" of head room.

However i did consider installing a fiberglass bubble a la the GT40's just to gain some head height. Would be simple todo as the targa is plain old fiberglass.

I'm 6-3 and have room above my head. But I sure used to get out of it faster when I was 20 years old.

I realized I was getting older when I used to think twice about taking the 924S because it was just so damn low. Hahahahah. :)

One of my buddies said he'd gladly saw me off at the knees if I REALLY wanted to get a 914. Doh!

My brother fits at 6'5" with some room. He just can't have a center console because he needs more room down there.

My dad is long waisted(That is what they call it Dave) like Dave D. He is about the same height as I, but my legs are almost 6 inches longer. He has a lot of problems fitting in sports cars, sitting in my 914 with the top on is not an option. I helped him out, did not want him to snap the door off leaning on it or anything.

I'm 6'-4", 250# and not long or short waisted. Car seems to fit fine, drive it 90% of time with roof off. The fit is better than many other cars because the seats go back a ways, but once hard against the backrest you can't tip them which is a minus. Biggest problem is getting into 1st gear, because it's a dog-leg down and to the left, so you have to move your leg. Best way to know is to find one for sale locally and go for a ride.

My Uncle is 6' 5" and a big boy, he got his 914 new in 1970 and fits in

it OK.

I'm 5'3" and can fit with the seat all the way forward. Plus I have the very rare extra storage cab located behind the driver seat.

(Sorry, I had to do it.) :D
