front suspension install problems
I have reconditioned the front suspension on my 75 914 2.0. everything has been powdercoated, a arms, carriers etc. I have installed new plastic poly bushings into the main carrier (the one closest to the steering rack). I am trying to install the a arm now and have had my ass properly kicked! I cannot get the a arm to slide into the bushing at the end closest to the steering carrier. I have tried constant pressure by hand arm and leg. I have tried tapping with a rubber mallet. The damn thing will not insert. It goes in about 1/4 - 1/2 inch and stops. Any tips???

I put the bushing on the control arm first.... Put some syn grease on the bushing ... Line it all up....then tap it in with a block of wood and a nice 5lbs hammer. Should be easy.

Also keep your torsion bar adj off and make sure your not hitting the torsion bar splines .

The A-arm needs to move freely once you get the bushings on, so you probably should reduce the ID if the bushing. I leraned this the hard way - I put mine back together and my bushings were binding and I had to take apart and put back together twice! Last time I put grease fittings on. Don't force the bushings on - you will regret it later.
