Question fuel pump wiring

Almost running....but...
My fuel pump is the wrong one (PO had carbs), there is only one line out from the fuel pump, but the return line from the egine bay goes back into the fuel tank. The Hot wire is red and black. I've traced it all the way back to the front left (as standing behand the car) wire on the forward connector on the relay board, it's black with a red spiral stripe. I can't seem to get any power out of this wire. I've checked fuses, and exchanged all the relays twice.

Does anyone know what to do to get power to this wire? I'm about to just run another wire, but since it's there it would be nice if it worked. Plus I'm sure it should be tied to something on the relay board (right?).

Thanks,
Paul

Assuming you you fuel pump is wired to the fuel pump relay, first check to see if the relay pulls in when the ignition is on. Originally when the car had FI, the ground for the relay coil went through the FI T4 pin III connector in the Haynes manual on the relay board. On my car, I simply run a wire from T4 pin III to the ground underneath the relay board.

Anyway, let us know if you can feel this relay pull in when a friend turns on the ignition.

Unhappy

Okay, I finally got the relay on the relay board working. I had to work on the ground for a while to make this happen (are you sure these things aren't brittish?). But I still bet no current out the important wire.

I witched out the relay board with two others and still no success.

I've found several other wires on the car side connector that don't meter like I think they should, so I may just have PO gremlins. The fuse box looks good, but there are lots of extra wires under the dash (mostly dead now). Everything else seems to work properly, so maybe I should count my blessings and run it to a switched connector on the fuse box.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Paul

Now that the FP relay is clicking on, check to see if there is power up stream of the relay pin 30 on the FP relay socket. This power will be there with the relay removed and the key switch on. If power is on @ pin 30, install the relay. Measure the power at T12 pin 12.

Let us know from there. Also, let us know if you are looking @ the Haynes manual.

Hi not sure if you are running FI or Carbs.

If you are running carbs check out the 914/6 conversion guide on this site. There is some mention of creating a jumper on the relay board to power the fuel pump when the FI is removed. Not sure if this applies to your situation.

Good Luck
